Begins development on cognitive business solution using IBM Watson APIs on IBM Cloud to provide an interactive mobile experience that enables the blind and visually impaired with real-time geolocation and audio descriptions
AUSTIN, TX 10/9/2017 /bluewireSMR/ — Kilroy Blockchain has been selected in phase two of the Watson Build challenge to develop its cognitive business plan, Riley (RealLife Adventure), into a working prototype using IBM Watson APIs on the IBM Cloud. IBM will provide Kilroy Blockchain with access to IBM development tools, business mentors and cognitive specialists to bring its concept to life.
The Watson Build challenge is IBM’s first cognitive challenge designed solely for Business Partners. In phase one, IBM received hundreds of business plan submissions from business partners around the world. In phase two, select Watson based solutions were chosen to progress to the next phase where partners will build working prototypes to demonstrate these cognitive products and services.
“The response to our first-ever Watson Build challenge for business partners has been phenomenal,” said John Teltsch, General Manager, IBM Global Business Partners. “We congratulate Kilroy Blockchain for presenting a strong business plan centered around IBM Cloud and Watson and progressing to the next round of the challenge. We look forward to supporting Kilroy Blockchain as it works on a prototype for Riley, with the goal of bringing it to our joint clients.”
Riley (RealLife Adventure) combines Watson Cognitive technologies and IBM Blockchain to create an intuitive application that uses AI and machine learning to recognize the visual world around us. For the blind and visually impaired, Riley sees.
Through verbose audio descriptions, Riley paints a vivid picture of the user’s surroundings based on their real time geolocation. The descriptions are generated from images and data stored in the blockchain, making them verified and true.
Trusted and imaginative, Riley enriches the lives of those who cannot see. It offers confidence and a more self-sufficient lifestyle, taking them closer to living a life of independence with less education, work and social limitations.
It gives the blind a chance to participate more fully in a world made for those who can see. And it tells the story of things people might not see who have normal vision. Riley hopes to transform today’s “heads down” culture to one with eyes wide open.
“Riley was created because we believe imagination can take you anywhere, no matter what your circumstances. We are using ours to solve real issues, and if it makes the world a little better then we did our job,” said Karen Kilroy, CEO Kilroy Blockchain.
The Watson Build gave Kilroy Blockchain an opportunity to learn more about IBM platforms, products and developer tools while building Riley. The team was able to work more fluidly and get really creative with IBM Cloud. The cognitive tools enabled imagination without limitation.
All the mentors and their support were invaluable throughout the process. Having their input and feedback, tips on tools and guidance in a pinch shows the commitment IBM has to not only this challenge but to their Business Partners relationships. Ultimately, Kilroy Blockchain was able to rapidly prototype the minimum viable product quickly.
Kilroy Blockchain is an IBM Business Partner in IBM PartnerWorld, a program that gives channel partners the resources and tools they need to succeed in the Cognitive Era.
